Children's Heartbeat Trust

CH thanksBallymoney Scout Group were pleased to host the annual St George’s Day parade and church service for our District earlier this year.
As hosts, we were able to choose the charity to which the collection from the service would be donated. We decided to donate this to our chosen charity of the year, The Children’s Heartbeat Trust, and were pleased to be able to present a cheque for £300 to their representative at our AGM in May.
The Trust were delighted with our support, and have sent us a certificate of thanks to acknowledge this.

Scouts & Explorers December update

The Scouts and Explorers had a busy start to the month of December with a bag pack at Asda raising a fantastic £469. Thanks go to all those who helped as well as the staff and customers of Asda Coleraine.
The Explorers joined in with the Scouts’ activities on silly team building events that included making human pyramids, scrums, carrying relays and a mass game of Twister.
The Explorers visited the University of Ulster Fencing Club and spent an enjoyable evening learning how to fence; a return visit is planned in February.
The Scouts went ten pin bowling for their Christmas trip and called into McDonalds for their supper.
Scouts and Explorers finished for Christmas on the 21st December and start back again on the 11th January.

Ballymoney Explorer Scouts SKI TRIP 2013

Ballymoney Explorer Scouts SKI TRIP 2013
As a lot of the explorers have requested that we have a skiing trip, we have decided to run this in February 2013. The dates are provisionally booked the week of Saturday 16th to Saturday 23rd
We will be stopping at the Radmans Hostel in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The Hostel is within walking distance of the slopes, the meals are based on full board and they are very good.
We will meet up with the other explorers from Mytholmroyd.
We plan to run a number of activities on an evening including night skiing, swimming, skating, bum boarding and road tobogganing. These will all be included within the price.
The cost for the trip will be £750 per person this will be subsidised by fund raising, so individually the cost should reduce.
As we need to get the flights booked ASAP we request a non-returnable deposit of £100 with the attached acceptance form.
The payments then will need to be made in stages:
£150 October
£150 November
£100 December
£100 January
£150 February
Reductions will be made for any fund-raising from February’s payments.
If you wish to discuses this or require any further info please speak with myself or any other of the explorer leaders.

Tesco Bag Pack Update

On Saturday 2nd June Ballymoney Scouts and Explorers packed bags at Tesco Ballymoney. We raised £565.50. This money will be used to buy camping equipment for the group, which will be very useful in the upcoming district camp, which will be the first time we will have the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers camping together.
We would like to thank all who helped pack bags, Tesco’s and their staff for their support, and their customers for their generosity.

Make your contributions go further with Gift Aid…

Gift Aid

If you donate money to Ballymoney Scout Group and if you are a UK taxpayer, please consider completing a Gift Aid form so that we can claim the tax back on your donation. Ballymoney Scout Group can claim another 25p for every pound that a qualifying taxpayer contributes.

How it works:

When a UK taxpayer gives a gift of money to a charity, they have already paid tax on that money. Because charities are generally exempt from tax, they can claim an amount from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) equal to the tax paid on that money by the donor. This repayment from HMRC is known as Gift Aid.
We now have a Gift Aid form on our resources page for you to download.

Hair-razing Keith!

Many of our Ballymoney troop have met Keith, the Scout Leader from Mytholmroyd (the group with whom we often share summer camps). Keith is a Fire Fighter when he is not a Scout Leader. As a Fire Fighter he has had his head shaved as part of a fund-raising (or perhaps that should be ‘hair-razing’?!) event for the Fire Fighters Charity – he tells me it’s a bit cold on top now!
In case you don’t recognise him without his hair, Keith is the one in blue kneeling down in  front.

Bag-pack Fundraiser Saturday 12 Nov

From 12 noon until 5pm on Saturday 12th November we will be packing bags at Tesco in Ballymoney to help raise funds for our Scout Group. The plan is to have two shifts – one from 12 to 2.30pm and the second from 2.30pm to 5pm – so that 2½ hours is the most you will be expected to do.
We would ask for as many scouts (in uniform) and helpers as possible please to help with our efforts.
In the past this type of project has been a successful fundraiser, as well as a good method of raising public awareness of Ballymoney Scouts. We appeal to scouts, parents, family and friends for help. See you there…
